In response to a growing number of applicants wishing to apply sooner to Dean College, the Office of Admissions has launched an Early Action Plan for applicants applying for admission to the Fall 2013 entering class. The Admissions staff made the decision to begin offering Early Action to provide additional options in application completion for those who are interested.
“Early Action offers students with significant interest in Dean the opportunity to complete the admissions process far sooner and to alleviate the stress sometime related with waiting until the winter or spring to apply” said Jim Fowler, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment and Dean of Admissions. “In particular, we have heard from students applying to our B.A. degree programs that Early Action will help them navigate the process in a time frame that will allow for more options to choose from in terms of admissions decisions.”
Under Dean’s Early Action Plan, students who wish to apply early will be required to complete their application for admission by December 1. Then, provided they submit their required documentation like transcripts and test scores by December 20, the College will be able to provide the student an enrollment decision by January 15.
“What I think is wonderful about the program we have established is it offers an opportunity for an early application for those that want it while holding true to our principle of access by continuing with our March 15 priority deadline and rolling admissions thereafter” added Dean Fowler.
The big difference between Early Action and the Early Decision Plan offered at some other schools is that Dean’s plan is non-binding. In other words, students who are accepted under Early Action will be required to pay an enrollment deposit by February 15, but the deposit will be refundable until May 1, allowing students to continue to receive admissions offers from other schools.
Fowler shared other advantages: “The other advantage to our Early Action Plan is that students who are accepted under the program will receive a very quick response about scholarships, allowing them to see how generous their institutional grant aid might be.”
