Information for Drama Instructors

Whether you work with acting students in a high school, drama academy, community theatre or summer program or if you mentor budding technical directors or designers, Dean College provides the curriculum and training to pick up where you leave off and expand upon that foundation to develop towards future success. Students at Dean are exposed to faculty who aren’t just teachers, they are working professionals who are actively engaged in the theatrical world. The conservatory level of training they receive, combined with a strong liberal arts curriculum, prepares our graduates to achieve success on stage, back stage and beyond.

Here are a few reasons why you should consider recommending the Dean College School of the Arts to your students:

  • Coursework focusing on acting, directing, script writing, theatre management, technical production and teaching
  • Performance and theory taught simultaneously, including instructional techniques, entrepreneurial skills and hands-on stage craft
  • Students may emphasize in Theatre or Musical Theatre
  • Freshman are afforded the same opportunity to earn roles as upperclassmen
  • Both A.A. and B.A. degree offerings
  • Dean productions are regularly selected for participation in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and students are routinely recognized for their acting achievements
  • Guest artists including Broadway star Mary Vreeland, film star Austin Pendelton and playwright Bruce Robinson will work with Dean students during the 2010-2011 academic year
  • Workshops focusing on the business of theatre taught by professionals including Carla Manzuk, a New York artist tax consultant
  • Brand new, state of the art theatre opening in August, 2010 featuring professional quality sound and light systems, green rooms, dressing rooms and scene shop

Why Dean?

Dean graduates work. They can be found on stage from Boston to New York to L.A. They can be found on the silver screen and the small screen. They are designers, directors and technicians. They are teachers, casting agents, producers and theater owners. More important, those who don’t make full-time careers in theatre have the educational background necessary to secure employment in every field imaginable due to the well-rounded liberal arts education they receive as a Dean student.

See For Yourself

We encourage you and your students to visit us and experience the Dean difference. We conduct open house weeks twice each year where high school students can join Dean’s classes and see first-hand what it means to train at Dean. If these dates don’t work for you, let us know and we will make arrangements for you when the timing is more convenient.
