Dean Ranked 20th by US News

Dean College has been recognized as a top 20 regional college for 2012 by US News and World Report.

Admission Philosophy and Standards

Dean’s admission philosophy is inclusive as opposed to exclusive. We frankly don’t care much about how our statistics read or our ranking in U.S. News. We are interested in finding and admitting the students that will best benefit from the advantages of a Dean education. To this end, we read every application file, and letters of recommendation are extremely important in our review, particularly the counselor letter.

With regards to standardized tests: These are a required element of our process. However, we view them differently than many other schools. We are using standardized tests as an indicator of an ability to pursue college level coursework, not as a barrier to admission. We also use these test scores in conjunction with campus based placement testing to determine course placement in the first academic semester. One more note: We encourage students who don’t score well on testing to take both the SAT and ACT exam. We routinely find that students who score poorly on one may often do much better on another, and we will always consider the highest scores available.

Deadlines

Dean College is rolling admission and admits new students throughout the year.

Admission Standards

Dean College does not have minimum requirements for admission, though the vast majority of students enter with a minimum GPA of 1.8 in academic courses and scores of 350 on each the SAT CR and SAT MATH or a 14 ACT composite score. The evaluation process takes into consideration academic course work and achievement and special notice is taken of grade trend, as many Dean applicants are identified as “late bloomers”.
